Identifier: Coll-33/Folio E
Scope and Contents The constitution of the Folio E papers of David Gregory follows: The documents' order is random, but the collection has several foci. One is David Gregory the academic's need for books. Numerous shopping lists for titles abroad reflect this, (one of which also includes a requirement for tea), as do inventories of other people's libraries nearer to home. Another focus in the collection is Gregory's public...

Identifier: Coll-33/Quarto A [20]
Scope and Contents Note of some Arabic versions of Apollonius' "Sectio Ratione" in the Bodleian Library, that possess Latin glosses by Edward Bernard, Gregory's predecessor in the Savilian Chair of Astronomy, and one other person. Bernard had wished to publish the works of the ancient mathematicians; this manuscript he found defective and abandoned, unable to translate completely. [His partial translation was copied out by Gregory as B37, and used by Sir Edmund Halley to learn enough Arabic to translate the...

Theorema Cyclometricum, not later than 16 April 1708

 Item
Identifier: Coll-33/Quarto A [52]
Scope and Contents

Notes on cone sections, probably all connected to Gregory's joint project with Sir Edmund Halley to publish Apollonius and Serenus, two ancient geometers, following the success of the great Euclid project. Gregory was busy with his work overseeing the Scottish Mint, and he notes peevishly that the Dean of Christ Church is to "put upon" him particular resources in Apollonius.
